SMA Pillar Events

Marketing In Focus (MIF)

Set in every July, Marketing in Focus is SMA’s summer signature event where we invite a panel of speakers from the marketing industry to give students insight about working in today’s marketing field. We invite speakers to educate and inspire students through informative presentations, interactive discussions, and networking sessions. In previous years, we have had speakers from companies such as Grey Vancouver, TAXI, Labatt Brewing Company, Future Shop and Cowie and Fox. We had over 80 students attending this event last year and we hope to make it better than before!

Marketers’ Night (MN)

Now in its twenty-second consecutive year, Marketers’ Night is SMA’s largest networking event of the year and it is also one of the biggest annual student-run events in the Lower Mainland. This remarkably successful event, usually held in the Fall semester, has offered marketers of today in BC to interact and meet with marketers of tomorrow.

There are different themes for different years, and sports marketing, was the theme last year to bring together marketing concepts of lifestyles, entertainment, customer experiences, sponsorships and more for attendees concerning sports marketing. Speakers were invited from companies such as: Endeavor Snowboards, Canucks Sports & Entertainment, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Marketers’ Night hopes to provide attendees the ability to network and develop new relationships with marketing professionals in a relaxed environment. This one-evening event is a must-go for those who want to learn from industry leaders and become the future marketer of tomorrow!

Intercollegiate Marketing Competition (IMC)

Going into its 8th year, Intercollegiate Marketing Competition, formally known as Brand Wars, is a marketing-focused business case competition targeted at university undergraduate students. Taking place in Spring semester, a custom business case in collaboration with SFU’s Beedie School of Business is created to organize a competition that is based on present-day marketing problems that competitors will be challenged to solve. IMC has expanded the competition by reaching out to American Universities. IMC that happened earlier this year took place at the heart of downtown Vancouver. Venues included The Network Hub, SFU Harbour Centre (downtown campus), and the Segal Graduate School of Business. A networking cocktail along with its signature awards banquet is always something to look forward to after a long day of presentations and showcase of marketing skills! IMC’s mission is to provide not only valuable experience to its competing teams, it also recruits strong and committed volunteers along with the organizing committee in order to bring out a successful case competition event and make SFU Beedie School of Business proud!
