IBM World Community Grid
Project Manager: Kiana Kharabi
Operation: August- October 2010
Overview: SMA was approached in early August for expertise in marketing and promotions to assist in creating awareness of IBM’s World Community Grid (WCG) initiative. Our overall goal was to encourage students and faculty at SFU to participate in contributing to major humanitarian efforts such as cancer research and hunger alleviation through the simple means of downloading the WCG software.
Methods: Print brochures, email blasts, social media, promotional video, and in-person approaches during Week of Welcome and Clubs Day.
Obstacles: Given the short time frame, the team undoubtedly worked under stress and pressure, however, the team was able to collectively pool resources and accomplish spreading awareness to students and faculty.
Outcome:Though the initial goal of 100 registrants was not met, members have learned
valuable experiences for the future and are proud of the contribution made towards global change. The project has opened doors to working with great companies and great clients, and there is now endless potential to work further.
